Sonia Skinner - Attorney

Attorney Skinner has served on the Board of Directors of the Women’s Bar Association and was a founding co-chair of the organization’s Women of Color Committee. Attorney Skinner currently serves as a Mentor of the WBA’s Women’s Leadership Initiative.

Attorney Skinner's practice focuses on the defense of corporate clients in employment discrimination cases, insurance and tort. Attorney Skinner has also defended an investment firm in securities arbitration proceedings before the National Association of Securities Dealers. In a recent products liability action, Attorney Skinner argued that the Dual Persona Doctrine would not negate the immunity accorded an employer who has paid worker's compensation benefits.

Attorney Skinner was formerly an Assistant Corporation Counsel with the City of Boston Law Department. During her tenure with the City of Boston, she successfully argued a case before the Supreme Judicial Court, Ali v. Boston, 441 Mass. 233 (2004), which dealt with the tort liability protection accorded owners of public land under the Recreational Use Statute. Also while an Assistant Corporation Counsel, Attorney Skinner tried five jury trials in Suffolk Superior Court and achieved defense verdicts in each. Her caseload involved employment discrimination suits filed with the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination, actions alleging municipal employee negligence and road defects, as well as a case alleging intentional interference with advantageous relations and a defamation case.
